The head of CSIPCBA’s most glamorous woman is about to exit the stage.
Nuha Nancy Salloum, who has served as chairwoman and CEO of the Canadian Society of Immigration Practitioners and its affiliates for the past five years, tells the industry GOODBYE, she will step down as chairperson when her contract ends in October 15, 2010.
“My guess is that I’ll end up in the profit Auto Industry and World Investment,” Salloum says. “People who know me know I’ve had these great extracurricular interests that have been very significant in driving me into many professions as Journalist, Lobbyist and Business Entrepreneur at the international level and Citizenship law council.”
Salloum’s departure has been the subject of rumors in Ottawa for some time and Minister Kenney is aware of such rumor for months. Her decision to leave not for profit organization is a decision for her future interest after accepting high profile position in the Auto Industry as lobbyist, and investor and CEO for Auto corporation.
The race to land this plum position is set to be intense but since her family were in the Auto industry in the Middle East since 1936, she feels she is returning to the family business.
The combination of a high salary and high-profile mingling with her makes it one of BC’s most coveted jobs. The impending departure of Salloum, has sparked whispers about a replacement within CSIP.
Possible names include many high profile retired politicians and judges and lobbyist, or a longtime friend of Salloum’s and previous legal counsel for cabinet minister, but the fact CSIP has by-laws and must follow its policy accordingly.
Madame Mirreille Gauthier has accepted the position from Vice chair of CSIP to Chairperson affective as of October 15, 2010.
Though it’s a coveted post, the job poses serious challenges, including dealing with the competing Immigration regulator agendas as described in the Gazette of August 28 2010.
“The issues are only getting broader and the resources tighter,” Gauthier says. “And while we do have shared priorities, each CSIP branch does have certain issues for them that take priority.”
“That job is a gut-busting job,” says Gauthier, You’re traveling all the time, you’re always in the limelight, you’re always working on very intricate and difficult matters with a lot of very interesting personalities — some of whom aren’t easy to get along with.”
